Tree Trimming & Pruning

Deadwood removal, crown thinning, and clearance from the roofline and power lines — timed to the right season for the species, not just whenever it's convenient.

What Trimming & Pruning Covers

Most trees benefit from pruning in late fall through very early spring, while they're dormant — the structure is easier to see without leaves, and pests and diseases that could infect a fresh cut are inactive. A few species are exceptions: maples, birches, and similar "bleeder" trees are better pruned in the coldest part of winter or after leaves fully emerge, and oaks specifically should only be pruned during dormancy, since pruning wounds during the growing season are how oak wilt spreads between trees.

Storm damage and dead or hazardous limbs are the one exception to all of the above — those get addressed as soon as it's safe to, regardless of season.

What's Included

  • A free assessment of the tree's structure, health, and clearance needs
  • Removal of dead or hazardous branches
  • Crown thinning for better airflow and light where the canopy is too dense
  • Clearance pruning from the roofline, siding, and driveway
  • Debris chipping and haul-away when finished

Tree Issues This Plan Covers

How It Works

01

Free Assessment

We look at the tree's species, condition, and what it's actually contacting — the roof, a driveway, or power lines — before recommending a plan.

02

Pruning, Timed Right

Work is scheduled for the right season for that species whenever the situation allows — dead or hazardous limbs are the exception and get handled right away.

03

Cleanup & Haul-Away

Cut branches and debris are chipped and hauled off site before the crew leaves.

Our Guarantee

We won't prune an oak or a bleeder species outside its right window just to fit a schedule — the wrong timing can do more harm than the overgrowth itself. If a hazard needs immediate attention, we treat that as urgent regardless of season.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should my trees be trimmed?

It depends on the species and growth rate, but checking annually and trimming every one to three years is a reasonable default for most Long Island trees near a structure.

Why does pruning timing matter so much?

Pruning most trees while they're dormant avoids attracting the pests and diseases that are active during the growing season — oak wilt specifically spreads through fresh pruning wounds, which is why oaks are only pruned in dormant season.

Is dead wood removal included, or a separate service?

It's included as part of a standard trimming visit — removing deadwood is one of the main reasons to prune in the first place.
